Starring débutante Arjun Kapoor, and the feisty Parineeti Chopra, YRF’s latest offering is a love story with a twist. And the twist is provided by acclaimed director Habib Faisal, whose last film “Do Dooni Chaar”, offered laughs and honest emotions, and was well appreciated by critics as well as the audience. So, with all those ingredients in the package, does the final recipe pack the punch. Here’s what the critics have to say.
Raja Sen, Rediff: Rating: 2 Stars / 5
What Faisal does to his Zoya is shameful, dousing a firecracker by turning a genuinely energetic film into a wet blanket.
Saibal Chatterjee, NDTV: Rating: 3 Stars / 5
If only Arjun Kapoor’s dialogue delivery had greater punch and Parineeti Chopra could pull off the emotional moments without going shrill,Ishaqzaade would have been a markedly better film.
DNA, Blessy Chettiar: Rating: 2 Stars / 5
Parineeti has marveled audiences as the loudmouthed Dimple Chaddha in Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl. As Zoya, she takes that to a whole new level, confident and unwavering from start to finish. Poor Arjun is only left trying to match that energy.
Zee News, Shomini Sen: Rating: Three Cheers
As the rustic, crass gun-strutting Parma, debutant Arjun Kapoor delivers a fine performance. For a south Bombay boy, it isn’t easy to get the Hindi twang right, but Arjun manages well.
First Post, Rubina Khan : Rating: 2 Stars / 5
Ishaqzaade though, is no Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak or Ek Duje Ke Liye as far as star crossed love stories go.
Koimoi, Mrigank Dhaniwala: Rating: 3.5 Stars / 5
On the whole, Ishaqzaade is an entertaining fare which works on the strength of its first half and the performances.
So, those are some mixed reviews. Seems like a few of them liked it, and few of them didn’t. Leave your comments and mini-reviews for Ishaqzaade in the comments section below. Cheerio!
